Your challenges…
our thoughts.
Take a look at our blog where you’ll get a behind the scenes look at the how our design process works. We share examples of our sketches and finished products, as well as some fun stories about us.
Stay connected!
We’re on Video!
We have created a YouTube channel to introduce our amazing clients and the great work and missions they do and have. We will be periodically interviewing leaders of entrepreneurial concerns, educational institutions, cause-oriented business, and spiritual/wellness arenas to gain insights into how they do it, and to inform, engage, and inspire our audience and the world.
Introducing Our New Lead Strategist!
“Studio Red Design has built a great brand in responding to existing unmet needs of our clients, whether annual reports, publications, mailers, etc. I would like us to move to the next level where we become an integral business partner, where we help drive strategy and approach.”
In With the New!
Out with the old and in with the new! 2021 promises to be a year of great and positive change. We have a new president and administration coming to town, and hopes of reconnecting in person with our friends and loved ones soon. To build our own momentum for 2021, Studio Red Design is making some exciting changes too that we are delighted to share with you: a new team member, a new website, a new logo, and enhanced social media outreach!
Wishing you the very ______(superlative) of holidays!
Wow… what a year. When trying to craft this year’s holiday card, we felt it was challenging to find the right words.
Forward Together, Not One Step Back
Staying closely connected to my North Carolina roots, my activist/lawyer brother (David Neal, an attorney in Hillsborough, NC), has been able to help me leverage my skills to help others.
What Feeds You?
At the beginning of the pandemic, I realized that I needed to identify what feeds me.
Finding Yourself in Change
In my last update email I shared a bit about the launch of Big Love Yoga @ Studio Red Design. I recently had the chance to present to a group of female entrepreneurs through Her Handshake (herhandshake.com) about my experience of pivoting from a well-established design firm with many long-standing partners and clients (you great people!) to a new effort.
Spread Joy: Best Wishes for a Lovely 2020
It was fun to design this card as an 8-panel closed gate fold. Printed by Linemark on metallic paper. Artwork done by Snezana, Etsy.
Partnership + Process
You and your organization can make a difference, and great design can make it happen. Effective design lends credibility, attracts and maintains interest; makes your voice and message heard, understood, and actualized.
Sketches for Piedras Azules
It was such a treat to be on location in El Salvador! Using conversation and observation, was able to gather a lot of information about this cooperative.
The Coop Members of Piedras Azules
It was an honor to spend time with such hard working individuals dedicated to their land and their community.
Colors from El Salvador
Here are some favorite photos from my time with Farmer to Farmer in El Salvador. Some are details of brightly painted buildings that reminded me of Rothko's bold masterpieces.
Authenticity
Authenticity is the foundation of all effective branding, marketing, or design efforts. It creates the sticky trust that helps your audience identify, align, and connect to your message.
El Salvador: A Resounding YES!

To Move Forward, We Need to Work Backwards: Creating a Schedule
With any project, the schedule (and any firm or imagined deadline needs) will be discussed and outlined with client before work begins. To efficiently plan our work schedule together to move your project forward, we need to work backwards.
Envision • Lead • Grow
Envision • Lead • Grow — a non-profit on a mission to end the cycle of poverty through entrepreneurship — had a conference here in Chevy Chase, MD at the 4-H Center May 31-June 3. Alston spoke to a group of amazing high school entrepreneurs.
Our Process
At the beginning of a project, we take the time to get to know the client and want to clearly understand their communication need/s (through conversation or possibly a follow-up Red questionnaire about their design objectives/current brand/competitors). We want to understand the client’s vision, aesthetic preferences and hopes for the design—always bearing in mind the target audience (and how best to reach them).
